The Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ado Ekiti District, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of three men in a correctional centre for the alleged kidnapping and killing of an 82- year- old man, Michael Obasuyi, in the state. The defendants, Sunday Obasuyi, 42, Akinniyi Ojo, 51, and Sunday Bobade, 51, are facing three- count of conspiracy, kidnapping and murder.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the defendants conspired and kidnapped 82- year- old Obasuyi on February 1 around 11 am in Agbado Ekiti. They later murdered him and buried him in the bush. The police discovered the deceased’ s body some weeks after combing the bush. The prosecutor stated that the defendants’ actions contravene Sections 280, 279 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State.
During the court session, the prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution. The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, ordered the remand of the defendants in the correctional centre pending issuance of legal advice and adjourned the case till April 24 for mention.
