Wole Arisekola Bags SWEGOP’s Media Icon Award at 9th Anniversary Celebration

Renowned journalist and publisher of Street Journal Magazine, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, was on Wednesday honoured with the prestigious Media Icon Award by the South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to journalism and media advancement in Nigeria.

The award presentation took place during SWEGOP’s 9th Anniversary Lecture and Reception, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Arisekola, a veteran media practitioner and influential voice in the Nigerian media landscape, was represented by Mr. Tunde Ayanda, a popular columnist with the Nigerian Tribune, who received the award on his behalf. In a brief acceptance message, Arisekola conveyed deep gratitude to SWEGOP for the honour.

In its citation, the Guild praised Arisekola for his decades-long commitment to the journalism profession, describing him as a trailblazer whose work continues to underscore the media’s critical role in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Also recognised at the colourful event were other distinguished figures including Prince Dotun Oyelade, Executive Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), and Professor Adeolu Akande, former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), among others.

Beyond his work in journalism, Arisekola is the President of the Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON) and holds the esteemed traditional title of Mogaji Ajenigieye, Oje, Ibadan. He is widely acknowledged not just as a visionary media leader but also as a philanthropist with a passion for service and empowerment.

Throughout his career, Arisekola has consistently used his influence to uplift the less privileged, support educational initiatives, and amplify the voices of the underserved — both within Nigeria and among Nigerians in the diaspora.

His enduring legacy is built on a foundation of integrity, service, and impact. Known for his humility, intellect, and principled stance on national issues, Arisekola continues to command respect across media, traditional leadership, and civil society.

To many, Mogaji Bowale Oluwole Arisekola is more than just a media icon — he is a symbol of hope, a champion of truth, and a legacy in motion.
