Woman Recounts Harrowing Ordeal After Husband Burns Her in Public

Janet Mwihaki, a mother of three, has come forward with a heartbreaking account of domestic violence that left her with severe facial injuries after her estranged husband attacked her in public.

Janet, who grew up in a humble background, shared her story in an emotional interview. She revealed that she was burned by her husband after refusing to reconcile with him. The incident, which took place in broad daylight, has shocked the community and sparked outrage over the rising cases of gender-based violence in the country.

“I had made the decision not to go back to him because of the constant abuse,” Janet said, tears welling in her eyes. “But he couldn’t accept that, and he attacked me with something flammable and set me on fire before running away.”

Janet’s face was severely damaged in the attack, and she is currently undergoing treatment as authorities continue the search for the suspect, who has since gone into hiding.

Her story paints a picture of a young woman who faced hardship from an early age. After her parents divorced when she was still in primary school, Janet was forced to drop out after completing Class Eight due to financial difficulties.

“My mother couldn’t afford my school fees, so I went to live with my aunt,” she said. “She owned a small hotel, and I began working there as a waitress to help support myself.”

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for justice and better protection for survivors of domestic abuse. Women’s rights organizations have urged law enforcement to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspect and ensure that survivors like Janet receive the care and support they need.

Janet, despite her injuries, says she is determined to rebuild her life and protect her children. “I want my story to be a warning and a message of strength for other women,” she said. “No one deserves to go through this.”
