Veteran Nollywood actor and producer, Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has shared a surprising account of his encounter with award-winning rapper Olamide, years after the artiste mentioned his name in a hit song.
Speaking in a recent interview, Yemi Ayebo revealed that he was initially excited when Olamide referenced him in one of his tracks, describing it as a proud moment. “Olamide was the first artiste to use my name in his song ‘Yemi My Lover’ and I was happy,” the actor recounted.
However, the situation later took a disappointing turn. According to Ayebo, fuji star Pasuma once asked him if Olamide had compensated or reached out to him for using his name. When he told Pasuma that he hadn’t received anything, the fuji icon reportedly called Olamide on the spot and handed the phone to Ayebo.
“Olamide then told me to get his number from Pasuma and call him, which I did,” Ayebo said. “I called Olamide for over six months, he didn’t pick. I sent him several messages, he didn’t reply.”
The actor’s revelation has sparked conversations online about how established artistes should acknowledge the cultural figures they reference or draw inspiration from, especially when it contributes to their popularity or lyrical creativity.
As of press time, Olamide has not publicly responded to the claims.
