…says it will ensure assailants are brought to book
From Kehinde Adewole
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ekiti State, in Ijero Local Government area, has condemned in very strong terms the recent alleged attack on their member and ex-lawmaker, Hon. Ekundayo Akinleye a.k.a Maxima, by suspected thugs allegedly sponsored by the powers that be in the state. The party vowed that those who attacked the ex-lawmaker shall not go unpunished.
In a press release co-signed by the party’s Chairman and Secretary, Hon. Lawrence Oluwole Chairman and Mr. Mathew Falade, respectively, and made available to newsmen on Friday, the party condemned the non-chalant attitude exhibited by those in government towards the incidence.
Recall that Maxima, who is immediate past member of the Ekiti State Assembly, representing Ijero Local Government area, his immediate family, place of business and other associates were on Saturday, October 24, around 9:30pm attacked with unmeasurable gravity of assaults, a situation believed to have been perpetrated by the powers that be in the state allegedly headed by a suspected political thug, Dele Omojola, a.k.a Marshal who allegedly wreaked havoc on GNN Guest House in Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti, state capital, and left devastated structure, unquantified damages of property and rendered the victims physically and psychologically traumatized.
Marshal has since denied the allegations saying he could not even hurt a fly.
The PDP in his remark said that attacking a fellow human being with dangerous weapons and ammunitions, is not only barbaric but evil. The partt added that Maxima remains a loyal party member who has paid his dues for the development of the party with robust representation during his service to his constituents.
“What worsened the situation was the inability of the government or security operatives in the state to initiate an arrest despite the undeniable evidences in media circulation.

” On this, we wish to subscribe to popular opinions and requests to the security agencies especially Police and the SSS to unearth the allegations that the attack was deliberately sponsored by the ‘powers that be’ in the state and targeted to eliminate the victims. It’s our responsibility as party leaders from the constituency of the affected Honourable to formally express our disgust as we can not fold our arms or remain in silence while one of us is being harassed, threatened or attempted to be killed.
” There is no doubt that the incessant attacks on opposition is antithetical to the democratic ideals which we all believe in. It remains curious, that having initiated formal complaints of this ‘sponsored attack” by the complainant, no single arrest has been made nor has any suspect been brought to book for prosecution. This situation has further given impetus to public opinions that the present government of Ekiti state is characterized with autocratic tendency of maiming and attacking the opposition, ” he said.
The party urges party members to remain calm believing the Police and/or the Directorate of State Security Servicee (DSS) will unearth and bring to book the hoodlums that carried out the attacks. The party expressed its appreciation to the members of the party and others who had, since the time of the incident extended their solidarity through calls, messages and personal visits to our Honourable. The Chairman assured the members and the public that all avenues will be exploited to see justice is obtained by our Honourable. He charged relevant government authorities to sincerely demonstrate a sense of neutrality by ensuring fair justice on the matter , most importantly to make sure that those fingered in this dirty act are released for proper investigation and genuine prosecution in accordance to the provision of law and extant rules of criminal code.
