The Rotary Club of Ibadan, one of Nigeria’s foremost humanitarian service organizations, celebrated its 120th anniversary in grand style, recognizing distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to humanity.
At a well-attended ceremony held at the club’s house in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Dr. Abib Olamitoye, a renowned philanthropist, medical practitioner, businessman and founder, Ibadan Central Hospital was conferred with the prestigious Special Humanity Service Recognition Award of “Rotary Icon of Humanity Service.”
The award, according to the President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan, Rotn. Abiodun Ajayi, PHF., was in recognition of Dr. Olamitoye’s unwavering dedication to humanitarian services, particularly in the areas of healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation.
“For 120 years, the Rotary Club International has been in the forefront of humanitarian efforts and our Rotary Club of Ibadan has been a pillar of hope, bringing change to countless lives. We are proud to celebrate this milestone by honouring individuals like Dr. Olamitoye, whose work aligns with our mission of service,” he said.
Dr. Abib Olamitoye, known for his pioneering efforts in accessible healthcare, has significantly impacted the medical landscape in Nigeria through his chain of hospitals, which have provided affordable healthcare to thousands.
His commitment to education is equally commendable, with scholarships and educational support initiatives benefiting numerous indigent students.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Olamitoye expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Ibadan, reaffirming his commitment to humanitarian service.
“This recognition is not just for me but for everyone committed to making our society a better place. Service to humanity is the best work of life and I will continue to contribute my quota wherever and whenever necessary,” he stated.
Established as one of the earliest Rotary clubs in Nigeria, the Rotary Club of Ibadan marked a significant milestone by joining its counterparts globally to mark The Rotary Club International’s 120th year in its history, as it has remained at the forefront of community service, championing various causes, including healthcare intervention, educational sponsorship and economic empowerment programmes.
