Lagos, Nigeria – Chaos erupted at the headquarters of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) as officers from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Ikeja stormed the premises in protest over a power disconnection.
The confrontation occurred after IKEDC cut off electricity supply to the base due to unpaid bills. In response, aggrieved officers descended on the power company’s office, leading to a violent altercation. The dramatic incident, caught on camera, showed scenes of destruction and physical confrontations between the officers and IKEDC staff.
Eyewitnesses reported that the military personnel forcefully entered the building, causing panic among workers. Some staff members allegedly suffered injuries while others fled the scene to avoid the chaos.
IKEDC has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but sources within the company confirmed that the power disconnection was due to outstanding debts running into millions of naira. The Nigerian Air Force has also not commented on the incident at the time of this report.
Authorities are expected to step in to address the situation as concerns rise over the escalating dispute between the military and the power distribution company.
