Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi, former Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party’s chieftain in Oyo State, has called on all Nigerians to pray for the peace and stability of the country.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Olaniyi Stephen, shortly after the prayers to mark the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir at the Agodi Praying Ground in Ibadan, Gbolarumi extended his Eid-el-Kabir greetings to the Muslim faithful.
“As we celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, may the peace and blessings of God be with you and your entire family,” Gbolarumi said. “I urge Nigerians to embrace peace for the stability and progress of this nation.”
The former Deputy Governor also prayed that Allah would reward the sacrifice of the faithful abundantly and preserve them to witness many more Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Balogun Adinni of Ibadan, who also spoke at the event, said the holy month of Ramadan has gone, and today is the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir. He called on the faithful to adhere to the teachings of the month, such as tolerance, discipline, compassion, and acts of charity.
Expressing concern over the insecurity in the country, Gbolarumi appealed to all Muslims to live peacefully and avoid all acts of violence. He stressed that the country needs peace and unity to attain its goal of sustained socio-economic development.
“Government alone cannot protect the lives and property of its citizenry without the support of the people,” Gbolarumi said. “I call on the good people of Oyo State, irrespective of their differences, to support the government’s effort towards ensuring security so that we can live in peace, joy, love, and happiness.”
The former Deputy Governor challenged all Muslims and other citizens in Oyo State to avoid hatred, anger, and revenge in view of the current national dispensation.
