El Rufai is a restless politician and courageous. However he ought to have learnt political patience from PBAT who continued to build political alternative to PDP when the political stalwart boasted that the will rule Nigeria for 64 years. Cleverly Tinubu abandoned AD to build another political alternative platform of Action Congress which metamorphosed into ACN
In union with other political platforms/Unions ACN, CPC some elements of PDP to form APC in which El Rufai was also a foundation member. APC has been able to wrestle power from the hand of PDP truncating there 64 years Agenda.
For El Rufai to abandoned APC is a political suicide because Tinubu will win his second term with array of seen and unseen political foot soldiers.
SDP as a political party died with MKO Abiola an attempt to resuscitate it is an attempt in futility.
For the purpose of argument let’s construct an hypothetical question that another southern Politician is fielded in 2027 and won the election even if he signed a bond that he will only rule for 4 years, political permutations would have changed and will crave to rule for another 4 years , if anyone is in doubt of this ask former Presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan. The simple implication of this is that PBAT is the best Candidate for Northerner for power to return to North by 2031 in which El Rufai would have been one of the Credible Northerners to mount the throne. When Ebino Topsy – Ebenezer Babatope ( avowed Awoist) decided to serve in Abacha regime . After the end of his tenure in the Government of Abacha , he said and I quote ” I have eaten the forbidden fruit and it will hunt me till the end of my life”.
Abandoning APC for another political party is a forbidden fruit for El Rufai only time will tell if he will be hunted or not. For some of the political Leaders already contacted from South West, joining any other political party against Tinubu will be likend to Judas Iscariot, a reputation no serious politician if South West extraction can attract to himself. El Rufai departure from APC to SDP is a “Suicide” mission of the likes of harakiri.
