A professor of Pedology at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, was on Thursday commissioned as the Fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Ex-VC of the institution, Prof Kayode Soremekun handed over to Prof. Fasina at the inauguration ceremony held at the premises of the institution on Oye-Ekiti amidst strict adherence to the Covid 19 protocol.
The new Vice Chancellor promised to ensure aggressive reconciliation among aggrieved and warring parties in the University community assuring that everyone would be part of his administration.
He said: “we need everybody on board to build the FUOYE of our dream.”
Prof. Fasina also promised to immediately put in place an Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) mechanism, as well as an academic retreat to reposition FUOYE to ensure that the University compete more favourably with her colleagues in meeting global standards.
His words: “We will try and create wealth for the university through what I called Risk to Wealth Initiatives.”
He assured further that two eminent Professors would be given the assignment to attract consultants from inside and outside the university.
“This brand has to be leveraged upon in moving to the next level. We have the right calibre of staff, and our strategic plan is appropriate as a compass to becoming the leading academic institution in academic excellence.”
While giving his remarks, Prof. Soremekun urged the management, academic staff, and the entire university community to cooperate and support the new Vice Chancellor for him to succeed.
His words, “it is possible to disagree but not disagreeable. It is from disagreement that we get new insight to move forward.”
He also urged his successor to take the university to an enviable position such that it could compete favourably with such varsities as the University of Lagos, and others in the next five years.
He pleaded with those he has offended to to forgive him.
Assuring the new VC of the strong support of other principal officers of the institution, the Registar of the FUOYE, Mr. Olatubosun Odusanya, said: ” What we should understand in administration is that it is the office that is being respected, obeyed and honoured not the person. I want to strongly assure the new VC, Prof. Abayomi Fasina that he will get the best of support and cooperation from us.”.
Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro Chancellor, Dr Mohammad Lawan Yahusa urged the new vice chancellor carry everyone along in his administration.
“There should not be cabals in the university. Give every one opportunity to contribute his quota.”
