The German Academic Exchanged Service called DAAD has since 1957 trained more than 2000 Alumni in Nigeria who have received scholarship from variety of programs in Germany and out of which about 300 awardees are females.

The DAAD representative in University of Ibadan, Hanna Schlingman made this known at a forum organised by Women Advanced Forum with a theme “Equal Opportunity in Education and Research”, in UI premises, Ibadan, recently.
According to her, the forum is conceptualized as a training program to deliver capacity-building which aimed at enhancing the delivery of mentoring and support network to advance the careers, progression and retention of female researchers and academics in Universities.
Said she “the idea is meant to provide space where women can jointly dig deep to bring out the challenging perspectives as well as painful and particular experiences bothering them and share learning with humor, pathos as well as with the spirit of sisterhood”.
“Apart from this, the forum is especially designed and targeted towards promoting and strengthening equal opportunity for both genders in the academia to encourage female students and young academics as regards applying for scholarship and grants”, she stated.

She however thanked important personality that graced the occassion like the Vice-chancellor of The University of Ibadan, Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole who officially opened the forum with a host of other delegation of high profile German and Nigerian academics who contributed to the conference through lectures, workshop and panel discussions
