The respected grassroots politician and political ally of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Kazeem Alimi, has formally defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) along with thousands of his followers from across all the wards in Ibadan North Local Government.
The remarkable event took place at the PDP Local Government meeting held at the Salvation Army Primary School, Yemetu Barracks, Ibadan, on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024.
The vice chairman of PDP Ibadan North Local Government, Comrade Mustapha, presided over the meeting. He invited the great leader of PDP Ibadan North, Chief Ismaila Osuolale Ashipa, to welcome all the defectors to the party.
In his remarks, Chief Ashipa emphasized that Hon. Kazeem Alimi is a grassroots politician who understands the intricacies of politics. He advised party members to embrace the new entrants as one family, stating that unity is the key to their continued success.
Hon. Ademola Omotoso introduced the group leaders of the defectors to the party leaders, executives, and members. The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, officially welcomed Hon. Kazeem Alimi and all the defectors to the PDP.
In his address, Hon. Kazeem Alimi expressed his gratitude to His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, and Otunba Seye Famojuro, the party’s great leader. He also acknowledged the support of Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, Chief Ismaila Ashipa, Hon. Ademola Omotoso, and other leaders for this landmark event.
Hon. Alimi apologized for his historical tour to the APC, which he described as a “greatest mistake.” However, he stated that he had gained valuable experience and personal development, including becoming a lawyer. He emphasized that in politics, one should not waste time with leaders who do not value their followers or provide employment, appointments, and empowerment opportunities.
Notable among the defectors are former vice Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government Engr Tajudeen Olaoye,Mr Kabiru Alimi, Hon. Lanre Ojo Ojo ‘badan,
Hon. Salewa Oyewo, Hon Olusola Alade ADC Chairmanship candidate and all their wards councillorship candidates.
The sum of N1.5m cash was raised for party members in attendance at the meeting and was to be shared by all the members from Ward 1 to 12 at the meeting and their ward Executive only.
The defection of Hon. Kazeem Alimi and his supporters from the APC to the PDP is seen as a significant boost for the PDP in Ibadan North Local Government, as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
