Makinde Inaugurates Governing Councils for Two State-Owned Universities

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Friday reaffirmed that his administration’s sustained investment in education is yielding visible results. He made this known while inaugurating the Governing Councils of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, and the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.

Speaking at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Makinde recalled that in 2019, the state had only one and a half universities due to the joint ownership of LAUTECH with Osun State. He noted that today, Oyo is the sole owner of three fully functional universities, including LAUTECH, the newly repositioned Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, and the upgraded Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo.

“People doubted us when we pursued sole ownership of LAUTECH, but we followed due process and the NUC eventually affirmed Oyo’s sole ownership,” he said. “Similarly, we resolved the ownership issues around Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, which is now progressing steadily.”

The governor emphasized that these developments reflect his administration’s dedication to education, one of its core pillars. He highlighted achievements across all levels of education in the past six years and pledged continued support for institutions through improved subventions and the establishment of Primary Health Care Centres on the campuses of LAUTECH and Tech-U, complete with ambulances, before year-end.

He charged the newly inaugurated councils to provide strategic leadership and help position Oyo’s universities among the best in Nigeria and Africa.

LAUTECH’s Governing Council is chaired by Professor Ayodeji Omole, while Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan chairs the council for Abiola Ajimobi Technical University. Both councils include distinguished academics, professionals, and government officials.
