The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State council has urged 17 members of the newly inaugurated National Assembly from the state to put aside their political differences by working harmoniously at ensuring good representation and enactment of laws that will be of benefits to the constituents.

The NUJ in a congratulatory message signed by Comrade Ademola Babalola and Sola Oladapo, Chairman and Secretary respectively stressed the need for the lawmakers to see their elections as a call to duty in order to ensure better lives and quality service delivery for our people.

They noted that Oyo state is in dire need of the Federal government presence hence the need for the lawmakers to collaborate with their colleagues from other regions at ensuring passage of bills that will usher in more development to the state.

The statement read, “On behalf of members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Oyo state council, we congratulate you on your inauguration as members of the 10th National Assembly.

“To whom much is given much is expected. Members of your constituencies are looking unto you to deliver on your electoral promises through sponsoring of bills that will be of benefits to them.

“The era of politicking is over. It is time to put aside political differences by working for the common goals of the pacesetter state.

“It is expected of you all to bring to bear your wealth of experiences in further repositioning of Oyo state in all the sectors.

“You can not do it all alone. You have to lobby lawmakers from other regions in order to ensure speedy passage of your bills.

“We have confidence in your ability to turn things around hence the mandate given to you.

“Oyo state will witness more growth through your robust contributions and sponsoring of developmental bills on the floors of the red and green chambers of the National Assembly.

“And as journalists, we will not shirk in our responsibilities at beaming our searchlights on your activities from this day till the next four years in order to provide the electorate with useful information about your individual efforts geared towards fulfilling the manifestos and the promise you made to our people.

“We wish you the very best of luck today and always,” they added.
