The Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday said it had arrested a man, Rafiu Akinwale, over the death of one Adesoji Adesida who said to be an Akure prince in Ondo State.

Akinwale who said to be a member of Odua People’s Congress (OPC) allegedly pushed Adesida while the latter was trying to settle a fight between the suspect and his girlfriend at a funeral held at the International Cultural and Event Centre, the Dome in Akure, the state capital on Friday.

A witness reported, “During the altercation between the two lovers, the deceased attempted to mediate. However, in a fit of rage, Akinwale pushed him, causing him to fall and lose consciousness. The victim was promptly taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, verified the occurrence and the detainment of the culprit.

“The suspect has been arrested, and an investigation has begun into the incident,” stated the PPRO.
