The relatives of the late Nigerian singer, Mohbad, were captured on camera discussing how to collect his assets from his wife, Wunmi, at his gravesite.
Recall that the singer sadly passed away on Tuesday, September 12, and was laid to rest barely 24 hours later in Ikorodu, Lagos state, according to Islamic rites. When his grave was being dug, some of his relatives were captured plotting how to claim his properties from his 24-year-old widow.
During their discussion, one of the men asked for the whereabouts of Mohbad’s wife and said she must ‘drop everything.’ In response, a man asserted that she should not come for the funeral because they will collect everything belonging to the singer in her possession.
An elderly man present at the scene added that there are children who earn millions of naira but fail to send money back home. He also warned the men gathered at the gravesite not to put their faith in women.
Another man was heard bemoaning where the singer was being buried, stating that the singer, who has mansions, is getting laid to rest in a village. It’s worth noting that Mohbad’s marriage to his wife was not made public until his untimely death.
The musician was apparently married to his 10-year partner, with whom he has a 5-month-old son. In Yoruba, he said: “We are going to collect it from his wife, all of Mohbad’s properties, if she doesn’t want trouble. All of Mohbad’s assets with her, she has to drop them.”
Others were heard asking her whereabouts and if she had not arrived at the burial site. Someone was also heard saying it was better for her not to come there at all.

Meanwhile, this has sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the family for discussing the singer’s properties barely 24 hours after his death. Read some comments as you scroll:

@lacevine wrote, “They said they’ll take everything from the wife. They were already talking about his wealth and properties and they haven’t even buried him yet. I feel so bad for the wife.”
@akunwa_ wrote, “Going on a widowhood journey at that young age. I hope his wife has a strong support system because widowhood brings out the beasts in everyone, including those who’ve been calling you ‘iyawo’ with all smiles.”
@critiquecrib wrote, “Marrying into a civilized family, with educated people that have the fear of God and respect for humanity, is key!”
@views09 wrote, “And the thing is, even after collecting it from the wife, you still won’t see the impact in their lives, because they will squander the entire asset on nonsense. Not even the 5-month-old baby is a concern for them, not how to get justice for the person who died, just greed.”
The shocking video of Mohbad’s relatives discussing how to claim his assets from his wife, Wunmi, has ignited widespread outrage and condemnation on social media. Many users expressed their sympathy for the young widow, criticizing the family for their greed and insensitivity, especially given that the singer had barely been laid to rest just 24 hours prior.
One social media user highlighted the importance of preparing a will, even at the early stages of marriage, to protect one’s assets in situations like these. Others empathized with Wunmi, acknowledging that widowhood often brings out the worst in people and urging her to seek a strong support system.
There were comments that emphasized the significance of marrying into a family that values education, respect, and the fear of God. Such a family, it was suggested, would be less likely to prioritize material possessions over the well-being of their loved ones.
Moreover, some users lamented the fact that even if the relatives were to succeed in claiming Mohbad’s assets from Wunmi, it would likely not lead to any positive impact in their lives. They predicted that the money would be wasted on trivial things, and expressed concern over the welfare of the couple’s 5-month-old son. It was a clear display of greed, with little regard for justice and the loss they were mourning.
The video serves as a reminder of the need for legal protections, such as wills, to ensure that the deceased’s final wishes are honored and their assets are distributed fairly. It also highlights the ongoing battle for gender equality, as the conversation revolved around disempowering a young widow and depriving her of rightful belongings.
As the discussions on social media unfolded, public opinion solidified against Mohbad’s relatives, reflecting a collective disdain for their behavior. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of family dynamics and the inherent vulnerability of surviving family members in times of loss.
