The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has disclosed during a press briefing at the scene of the urgly incidence that not fewer than 25 pupils that were trapped in the building have been evacuated from the debris so far and they have been taken to the Lagos Island Hospital Marina, for proper medical attention.
The primary school is said to be located on the second floor of the building with pupils feared killed and others trapped.
The building situated at Massey Street at the Adeniji Adele area of Lagos Island is said to be about 30 years.Channels Television observed that several children were rescued and have been taken to the Lagos General Hospital, Marina.
Many of the occupants of the building said to be a residential facility with several apartments are feared to be trapped under the rubble.Emergency and rescue workers are currently at the scene of the incident.Channels Television’s reporter saw a pupil being pulled from the rubble covered in dust.Although the child didn’t sustain visible injuries, the crowd were full of praises as another child was also pulled out from the wreckage.Two children were among others that residents said had been rescued so far.Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as well as security personnel including the police, army, and National Security and Civil Defence Force (NSCDC) have continued with rescue operations at the scene.
