Adefowora Abiodun, one of the six individuals declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over their alleged roles in a fraudulent cryptocurrency investment scheme, has voluntarily turned himself in to authorities.
Abiodun, a suspected promoter of the cryptocurrency trading platform Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), reported to the EFCC headquarters around 4:00 p.m. on Monday, accompanied by his legal representatives.
His surrender follows a ruling last Thursday by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which granted the EFCC’s request to arrest and detain all six suspects pending the conclusion of investigations and potential prosecution.
The other suspects declared wanted are Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim. The EFCC alleges that the group was involved in a fraudulent investment operation valued at over $1 billion.
During the court hearing, EFCC counsel Fadila Yusuf presented evidence supporting the application, which Justice Nwite found convincing. “I am satisfied that the application is meritorious and hereby grant it as prayed,” he ruled.
Abiodun’s lawyer, Babatunde Busari, said his client chose to surrender to clear his name and counter what he described as a “false narrative” circulating in the media. He also affirmed Abiodun’s willingness to fully cooperate with investigators.
