…. Called on those calling for Secondus’ removal to allow peace to reign
As the pressure to remove the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Uche Secondus, mounts, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and PDP party chieftain, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi have charged those calling for his removal to allow peace to reign.
Remember the call for Secondus’ removal increased at the weekend as more people called for his resignation and more of these people are governors and PDP House of Representatives Caucus and a group simply known as PDP Frontliners.
But while speaking with our correspondent via phone interview in Ibadan, Gbolarumi appealed to the aggrieved members of PDP to allow peace to reign saying because the call for removal of the PDP National Chairman will rather be a disservice to the political party.
He charged the aggrieved members to rather in the interest of the party tow path of law to resolve the party crisis. According to him, those clamouring for Secondus’ removal are not genuinely doing so and if they are genuinely doing so, they should wait for the period National Convention of the party would be convened where they can pass vote to allow the national Chairman to continue or discontinue as party’s National Chairman.
Gbolarumi said: “Some of the governors and Rep members clamouring for Secondus’ removal should allow peace to reign. They are not bigger than the party because there is a process to remove the party chairman and the process is stated in the constitution that after the expiry of chairman’s tenure, a national convention would be convened where the new or incumbent chairman can be reelected, where members can pass vote of or no confidence on the chairman and the majority have the way. But doing otherwise is giving chance for APC opposition party to disintegrate PDP.
“I see those clamouring for Secondus’ removal doing this for their own selfish interest and not in the interest of the party. And I see APC using this possible litigation over the matter to overcome PDP. I mean, if Secondus should go to court over the allegations against him to remove him, it is an impending danger for PDP as APC will make use of the crisis to destroy PDP.
“Those calling for Secondus’ removal are not doing it genuinely and if they are doing it genuinely, they should follow the legal process. Those leaving PDP for APC are doing so for their selfish interests. Because how can you leave political party that led you to power and for whatever reason feels going to another party is next thing. Why couldn’t they use the party they decamped to, to initially won the election if they are popular?
“I therefore enjoin those calling for Secondus’ removal to hold on, so they won’t bring the political party to disrepute. The governors and rep clamouring for his removal are in minority. They should wait for period of party convention to speak the minds of the majority”, he urged.
Speaking on the visitation of the Bukola Saraki’s reconciliation committee on PDP crisis in Oyo to the state, Gbolarumi said, ” Saraki reconciliation committee have done their best. We are waiting for the governor (Seyi Makinde) to fulfill his promises. Although, some of us don’t believe in his promises but to honour the reconciliation committee, we are waiting for him till end of this month”, Gbolarumi revealed.
