From Taiwo Oluwadare, Ibadan
The Igbo General Assembly in Oyo state has decried a possible violence that may be unleashed by a warring faction of the association as it celebrates this year cultural day.
The Acting President General of the association, Nze Emeka Enweronye made this known penultimate week at a press conference in Ibadan to sentisize public about its cultural day slated to hold at Adamasingba Stadium on 30th of November, 2014.
According to him, Dr. Alex Anozie, the leader of the faction and his cohorts are sounding a war drum signifying to disrupt this year cultural event adding that appropriate authorities should note that should in case Igbo man or woman suffer attack, they should be held responsible.
Said he “The Igbo General Assembly is an Umbrella body of responsible and law abiding Igbos resident in Ibadan and Oyo state. We have never involved in any form of violence and as Oyo state has been peaceful and secured, anybody calling for violence should be closely watched”.
“It is time for the authentic Eze and his cohorts to show the world the authenticity of their claims. The “Eze”, Dr. Alex Anozie has summoned the Igbos to the Liberty Stadium for cultural festival while the real Igbos have scheduled to celebrate their culture at the Adamasingba Stadium”.
He maintained that while their association remains the authentic, its factional association remains otherwise saying the crowd will judge who actually is in control of the Igbos.

He further maintained that the cultural day is meant to promote, develop and advance Igbo language and culture adding that the day will witness the rich culture of the Igbos in the areas of cultural dances, food, dressing, masquerading, wrestling, fluent use of Igbo language, breaking of kola and among others.
He added that the day will be used to recognize and appreciate Igbo sons and daughters as well as friends of the Igbos who distinguish themselves in their chosen careers.
