From Taiwo Oluwadare, Ibadan
As schools in Nigeria resumed penultimate week after an elongated holiday as a way to avoid spread of dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country, private schools in Oyo state has taken caution through use of water sanitiser and use of Non- Contact Infrared thermometer as they resumed.
In Ibadan, the private schools have in their schools bowls contained water sanitiser for parents, guardians, teachers and pupils to wash their hands before they are allowed into the schools with medical doctors diagnosing the health status of the students.
According to the proprietor of Lan-Tem private schools, Mr. Adekoya Lanre, the caution against the dread disease is against the backdrop of seminar organised in conjunction with Oyo state ministry of Health and the National Association of Private Proprietors Society (NAPPS) in the state to curb the menace of the disease.
He said NAPPS is in support of government program to ensure Ebola ailment is wiped out in the society adding that apart from the mandate, the society of the proprietors share the vision and directive to eradicate the dreaded ailment.
He maintained that the exercise will last for one week and after which the schools will limit it to only hand washing sanitization as a permanent exercise adding that the cost of carrying out the exercise is high but they have no choice than to do the right thing to avoid Ebola in schools and society in general.
He said his school has bought two Non- Contact Infrared Thermometers used as another caution against Ebola which is used majorly on the pupils to diagnose their level of body temperature.
Also speaking, a doctor attending to pupils in a school, Dr. Wale Raheem said the Non- contact infrared thermometer is to make sure the kids have a normal temperature before coming into the schools.
He said the reason is that high temperature is a major symptom of Ebola virus saying that any pupil that is detected with temperature below or above normal level will be sent back home.
